Letter bean bags or tiles
Explanation
The Letter Bean Bags are put in the middle of the basketball court or field. Colour teams line up in each corner of the basketball court/area of play.
The activity starts with each team sending a runner to the middle of the court to grab a bean bag letter and then running it back to the team. The next team member runs to grab next letter.
Teams use the letters collected to build as many words as possible.
Variation/progression
The second variation of this game has students follow the same process, but has them lay out bean bags into a crossword format.
Participant’s feedback on activity
The teams that planned what word to spell had the most success building off the main word. The kids loved this activity and they were cooperative and engaged.
The activity helped build student vocabulary.
