Bean Bag Word Study

Equipment list

Letter bean bags

Clipboards

Sheets of paper

Pencils

Explanation

Place letter bean bags in the centre of the field of play. Divide class into their colour teams.

One by one, team members run into the centre to pick up a letter bean bag. Do this until all the letters have been picked up. Each team should have approximately 25-35 letters.

Teams then work together to create as many words as possible.

Words can be recorded on the piece of paper so that letters can be reused.

Variation/progression

This activity can be set up as a pirate game for younger students. Each colour team has a ship that they need to steal letters from. (Use the appropriately coloured hula hoop for each team.) The stolen letters are used to create words by each team.
