Time lotto

Equipment list

  • Four laminated sets (if you have four teams) with a 9 X 2 arrangement showing digital, French and English time displays (in attachment). Four lotto boards (3 X 3) with analog time display for the answers. The sets are colour-coded, so that they are easier to sort if mixed up and pupils do not pick chips from the wrong box.

Explanation

Form teams with fixed teams of 2 to 5 pupils. Each team gets a 3 X 3 lotto board showing an analogue time display. Pupils run and fetch chips showing digital and English time display, which they should put on the correct place on the lotto board. The teacher decides whether pupils run individually or in half-groups each time, and whether they take one or more chips each time. The chips are put on top of each other.

Variation/progression

Take away the chips with digital or English time display if it is too difficult or too much at a time. It is always possible to add more after a while in order to obtain a nice progression. The activity can become more difficult when demanding that pupils find the right chips according to the arrangement on the board.

Participants’ feedback on activity

For this activity, the teams work together in order to put the chips on the right spot, so that it is the same chip that is taken from the box. The pupils do not get feedback directly on whether they have put the right chip, but it can be solved by going through the answers together when all are finished or by cutting the chips with different patterned scissors, so the chips will fit like in a puzzle.
