ELA Sort - Genre/Purpose for reading (fiction/hybrid/non fiction)

Equipment list

1. Identify sorting categories.

Possible examples:

1) Fiction/Non fiction/Hybrid

2) Genre: Horror/Pop culture/graphic novel/fantasy/adventure

3) Purpose: Entertainment/Message/follow directions, learning information

Students will choose a location for each category.

For example:

Learning information = outdoor classroom

Follow directions = basketball court

1. Teacher offers a mini lesson on genre/purpose etc.

2. Students from a group send one member to choose a book from an allotted selection.

3. They will bring the book back to the group.

4. The group will make the decision of where the book will go.

5. The student will run the book to the location decided by the group.
