Multiplication Fact Fluency Relay to 100
Equipment list
Two six-sided dice per group
One number line up to 100 for each group
One pencil per group
Explanation
To Set Up:
Divide students into teams.
Set up the space for a relay race: Place the dice on one side and the number lines with pencils on the other side for each group.
To Play:
Each group selects one student to go first.
The first student in each team rolls the two dice and multiplies the numbers together to find the product.
The student then moves to their team's number line, which is located across the room.
Once at the number line, the student draws a jump that represents the product on the number line.
Each student repeats this process, drawing jumps on the number line until their team reaches or surpasses 100.
The first team to reach or exceed 100 sits down to indicate they are finished.
Variations / Progressions
Use a larger number line for more of a challenge.
Incorporate different dice types (4-sided, 6-sided, 8-sided, 10-sided) to adjust difficulty.
Use the activity for addition instead of multiplication.
For subtraction, students work backwards on the number line.
Try whiteboard dice for customizing multiplication facts (up to 9x9).
Focus on specific times tables by providing one die and number tiles (e.g., the six times tables).
