Relating Time To Common Activities

Equipment list

  • Clipboards

  • Worksheet and pencil

  • 4 x 6 index cards with examples (1 set for each group)

  • Chalk

Explanation

Students were placed into groups of 4-5. They each had a clipboard and pencil to record their answers. On the sidewalk side of the bus loop they wrote 'hours', 'minutes' and 'seconds' as categories. They then relayed one student at a time from one side of the bus loop to the other to pick up an index card with an example such as 'getting a haircut'. As a group they had to decide if the activity took seconds, minutes or hours and place it accordingly. To keep accountability, at the end of the lesson each student recorded at least two examples in each category.
