Multiple Choice Move About

Equipment list

  • Colour-coded questions (for teacher)

  • Corresponding color answer sheets (so that each question and its potential answers match)

Explanation

This is a simple and engaging way to conduct multiple choice review of any subject with students in upper elementary and secondary school.

Preparation
Print multiple choice questions with their corresponding 4 possible answers on coloured paper.
Ensure that all possible answers to a given question are printed on the same coloured paper.
Cut up questions and answer sheets so that each question and each potential answer are separated.
Staple the questions together into a little booklet.
(See photo)

Set Up
Randomly spread the potential answer sheets around your learning area.
Students can help!
Remember, if you're running this activity outdoors, use something weighted to keep the papers from blowing away. (beanbags or stones work!)

To Learn
Pair students up, and ask them to stand off to the side of the learning area.
Select a question to ask the class, and announce to them the colour of the question you are asking. Students listen to the question, then move with their partner to review all the potential answer sheets of the corresponding colour.
Once they have determined the correct answer they return to their starting position. (Ensure that students don't congregate at the correct answer).
Once all teams have reviewed the potential answers, the teacher asks the class to move to stand close to the answer sheet that they selected.
Debrief each question by asking students why they selected their answer sheet.
The activity continues until the class has reviewed all the questions.
